Borderline Personality Disorder Therapists in Houston, TX
With Mary Duran, LCSW, LCDC
And Gabriela Treviño, LCSW
We trained in borderline personality disorder at the Menninger Clinic, nationally known for its work with BPD. We bring both professional and personal understanding to this work.
Do your emotions feel too big for the situation?
Have people called you unpredictable or manipulative?
Do others feel like they are walking on eggshells around you?
One day you are confident. The next day you feel empty. You may morph into different versions of yourself depending on who you are with. You were not born this way. Your brain learned to adapt in response to trauma. Now we help it learn something new.
Clients Come To Us With
Unpredictable emotional swings
Fear of abandonment
Unstable relationships
Poor sense of self
Impulsive choices
Self-harm thoughts or behaviors
Previous suicide attempts or plans
Chronic emptiness
Intense or uncontrollable anger
Dissociation
If this sounds familiar, you’re in the right place.
How BPD Therapy With Us Works
This is relational therapy. That means we use the therapy relationship as the building blocks for stability. We sit through the ups and downs together. When there is tension or misunderstanding, we work through rupture and repair in real time. You learn what healthy attachment feels like.
Sessions with us are direct. We give feedback and coaching. We are not silent note takers, we’re in it with you.
Modalities We Use
-
Practical tools to slow down reactions, regulate emotions, manage interpersonal relationships, and tolerate distress without making things worse.
-
Relational skills to pause and reflect on intentions, recognize different perspectives, and foster curiosity rather than making assumptions.
-
Understand how early relationships shaped you and build new patterns of connection.
-
Learn to stay present in your body instead of dissociating or spiraling.
Over time, you become more in charge of your emotions instead of feeling controlled by them.
What to expect from BPD treatment at Healing Lane Therapy
Starting treatment for BPD can feel daunting, especially if you have been told your diagnosis makes therapy harder. Our approach is direct and relational, we do not shy away from the difficult moments.
In the first few sessions, we focus on safety and stabilization and building a strong rapport with you. From there, sessions typically include DBT skills work (emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness), alongside attachment-focused exploration of how early relationships shaped your patterns.
We work with clients in-person in Houston and via telehealth across Texas. Most clients come weekly to start, then shift to bi-weekly as stability increases.
If you have been looking for a borderline personality disorder specialist in Houston, we offer a free 20-minute consultation to see if we are a good fit.
The best time to start therapy is as soon as you’re thinking about it
Emotional control
Stable relationships
Clear identity
Less impulsivity
Fading self-harm noise
Renewed interests
Returning joy

more about me
👋🏼 Hi, I’m Mary
Before founding this practice, I specialized in treating Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) through intensive training at The Menninger Clinic and J. Flowers Health Institute. My work focuses on helping clients navigate the intense emotional cycles and attachment wounds often associated with BPD, providing a steady, honest relationship where you can move from feeling overwhelmed to feeling grounded and secure.
Outside of the therapy room, I have practiced yoga for over a decade and find movement essential for calming a fast-moving mind. I live in Houston with my spouse and our two small dogs.

I was raised in Houston and feel deeply connected to the community here. In my free time, I enjoy getting lost in a good book, gardening, and spending time with my partner and our three dogs.

FAQs about BPD Treatment

BPD involves patterns — emotional intensity, fear of abandonment, identity instability, that are not always addressed in general talk therapy. A therapist trained specifically in BPD will use structured approaches like DBT or MBT that have the strongest evidence base. If you have been diagnosed with BPD or suspect you may have it, a specialist is worth seeking out.
-
Yes. As licensed clinical social workers (LCSW), we are qualified to diagnose BPD when appropriate. If a formal diagnosis is warranted, we will discuss it with you directly as part of your care. We also collaborate with psychiatrists and other professionals in Houston when a team approach, such as medication evaluation or coordinated treatment, serves your needs best.
