Meet Tayler Duden, LCSW

Tayler Duden, LCSW - Houston therapist specializing in teens, young adults, and parents

Individual & Family Therapist
Anxiety, Depression, & Phase of Life Specialist

My style is relational, collaborative, and person-focused. I show up as a real person in the room because I believe you can’t build a life of authenticity with someone who isn't being authentic themselves. Integrating ACT and Positive Psychology, I bring a perspective that honors the struggle while fiercely celebrating your strengths, knowing firsthand that growth requires both a compassionate, safe place to land and a creative push to move toward the things that truly matter to you.

About Me

Tayler Duden, LCSW - Houston therapist specializing in teens, young adults, and parents

Following a career in corporate learning and development, my passion for helping people better connect with themselves and others led me to graduate school to become a therapist. I strongly believe in being curious about what’s going on within ourselves and in forming meaningful connections with the people around us, but I know doing so is hard and requires specific tools that I am here to provide.

I’ve come to view therapy the same way we might view going to a primary care physician and taking care of our physical health. Sometimes, we get sick and aren’t doing so well, and we need the support of a doctor to move through it and get back to baseline. Other times, we use the doctor as a time to pause, check in, and make sure we are maintaining our health. We also might do things in our everyday life that help to not only take care of our bodies, but even grow in our sense of well-being. I believe my role as a therapist is much the same: I am here to help individuals and families move through the challenging, difficult moments in life. I also firmly believe in creating space where we can all pause, check in on ourselves, and even grow in our connection to our mind, ourselves, and our skills. In this sense, I believe everyone can benefit from therapy.

I bring a relational, collaborative, person-focused style to our sessions, recognizing that sitting with our feelings can often be challenging. That is why I like to find creative ways to engage, such as writing, drawing, or using a great analogy, to meet you right where you are and help you do the work. I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help us create a safe, compassionate environment to look at the difficult parts of life, while also referencing Positive Psychology and strengths-based tools to help us recognize what is working and build a life filled with well-being.

I specialize in working with adolescents, young adults, and parents across a range of life phases. I began my career at The Menninger Clinic, where I supported individuals and families in times of crisis using innovative ways to cope, such as combining creativity and mindfulness through culinary therapy or gardening!

Whether it’s your first time going to therapy and you’re a little unsure, you’re a parent holding the weight of supporting a child who is struggling, or you’re an individual looking to grow in your sense of self and well-being, I’d love to meet you and see if we might be a good fit to walk that journey together.

Outside of the therapy room, I’m a parent and love spending time with my family. I also love paying attention to every-day things that fill my cup, from time outside, cooking, and doing something creative, to exploring the great coffee shops of Houston. I live in Houston with my spouse, child, and our scruffy terrier mix.

My Specialities

Therapy with me is:

  • I believe in the value of showing up as a human in the therapy room and will build a warm, real, and human relationship with you. Being able to model a secure attachment can allow you to learn your attachment style and how to form more security in relationships with others.

  • We are partners in your healing journey. Rather than just taking notes, I work alongside you to set goals, explore new perspectives, and discover the tools that feel most supportive for your unique life.

  • You are the expert on your own experience, and I am here to meet you exactly where you are. My approach is grounded in your specific needs, focusing on your inherent strengths while creating space for the hard-to-look-at parts of life.

  • I show up as a real person in the room, not a clinical blank slate. I believe in being genuine and honest with you, creating a safe space where you feel comfortable being your truest self.

HOW DO I KNOW WE ARE A GOOD FIT?

We will likely be a good fit if —

  • You value a therapist who shows up as a real person. You are looking for a genuine human who brings warmth, curiosity, and creative analogies into the room.

  • You want to lead a values-driven life. Using an ACT approach, we will work together to stop letting difficult thoughts push you around so you can start making choices based on what truly matters to you.

  • You (or your teen) want a teammate. You need someone in your corner who listens deeply and challenges you with compassion, rather than another authority figure giving a lecture.

  • You want to focus on what is working. We will utilize Positive Psychology and strengths-based tools to move beyond just getting by and actually build your sense of self-worth and well-being.

  • You are ready to be curious. You’re ready to bridge the gap between stuck and secure, using creative tools to navigate the hard parts of life and reclaim your sense of self.

We will likely not be a good fit if —

  • You want a passive session where I only listen. I am an active participant in your growth. If you prefer a therapist who never offers feedback or a gentle push toward your values, my style might feel like too much.

  • You prefer a formal or highly medical environment. My approach is deeply human and relational; if you are looking for a rigid clinical expert vibe, we won’t be in alignment.

  • You’re looking for a quick fix. I view mental health like physical health; it’s a practice of maintenance and growth. Building resilience takes consistent effort, and I don’t offer overnight solutions.

  • You want someone to make your decisions for you. My goal is to help you find your own agency and internal stability; I’m here to help you navigate, but you are the one in the driver’s seat.
