Meet Kori Cook, LCSW, LCDC
Individual, Family, & Couples Therapist
Borderline Personality Disorder, Substance Use Disorder, & Phase of Life Specialist
My style is warm, direct, and collaborative. I show up authentically and transparently because I believe lasting change begins with feeling respected, understood, and challenged to grow. I draw from DBT, CBT, ACT, Mentalization-Based Therapy, EFFT, and Motivational Interviewing, and I have been shaped by my training at The Menninger Clinic. I bring both skill and honesty to the process of building a life worth living. I meet you where you are and aim to be a steady presence while you do the hard work of change, paying attention to the relationships, routines, and community that help it last.

About Me
I am passionate about therapy being a space where you feel respected, understood, and challenged to grow. I care about supporting people as they build a life worth living, and I bring skill, honesty, and care to that process. My style is warm, direct, and collaborative. I show up authentically and transparently, meet you where you are, and aim to be a steady presence while you do the hard work of change.
I work with adolescents, young adults, adults, parents, and families navigating borderline personality disorder (BPD), substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, and life transitions that can knock anyone off balance. Complex mental health, substance use, and the young adult years are my primary focus. Because lasting change rarely happens in isolation, I pay attention to relationships, routines, and finding your place in your community.
My clinical experience includes extensive training in complex mental health and substance use disorders at The Menninger Clinic, along with work across a range of clinical settings. Drawing from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT), Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), and Motivational Interviewing, I tailor treatment to each client's needs and goals. That may mean practical skills for managing intense emotions, understanding patterns that keep repeating, or strengthening the connections that matter most. When working with parents and families, we explore what's happening beneath the conflict and learn to respond to each other in ways that build trust.
Outside of my professional life, you'll usually find me lost in a fantasy novel, cooking something new with my partner, or playing with my rescue dog and cat. They remind me daily that connection and play matter. I believe healing happens when people feel genuinely seen, and I strive to create a space where you can explore your experiences, discover your strengths, and move toward a more fulfilling life.
My Specialities
Therapy with me is:
-
I believe in the value of showing up as a human in the therapy room and will build a warm, real, and human relationship with you. Being able to model a secure attachment can allow you to learn your attachment style and how to form more security in relationships with others.
-
We are partners in your healing journey. Rather than just taking notes, I work alongside you to set goals, explore new perspectives, and discover the tools that feel most supportive for your unique life.
-
You are the expert on your own experience, and I am here to meet you exactly where you are. My approach is grounded in your specific needs, focusing on your inherent strengths while creating space for the hard-to-look-at parts of life.
-
I show up as a real person in the room, not a clinical blank slate. I believe in being genuine and honest with you, creating a safe space where you feel comfortable being your truest self.
HOW DO I KNOW WE ARE A GOOD FIT?
We will likely be a good fit if —
You want a therapist who is warm, direct, and real, and who tells you the truth with care.
You are ready to understand the patterns that keep repeating and do the hard work of changing them.
You want a collaborative approach, not someone who will simply lecture you.
You (or your teen) want to feel respected and challenged to grow.
You need a steady space to work through BPD, substance use, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, or young adult transitions.
You’re a parent or family member who wants to understand what’s beneath the conflict and rebuild trust.
We will likely not be a good fit if —
If you want a therapist who only nods and never challenges your old habits, my direct style might feel like too much.
If you prefer a cold, formal, or highly medical environment, my human and relatable approach won't be a match.
You’re looking for a quick fix. Growth, especially in recovery and identity, takes real work, and I don't offer overnight solutions.
You want someone to manage you. My goal is to help you find your own agency; if you want someone else to make your life decisions for you, we won’t be in alignment.
